The enchanting Huseboden neighbourhood is largely characterised by its rural quality by Lake Lucerne. The adjacent Park Hotel Vitznau is an exceptional architectural example of early tourist developments in Central Switzerland. The Park Hotel’s dominant expression and its isolated location on the lake shore was particularly noted. The project for the Panorama Residence envisages a kind of topographic effect for the architecture that preserves the unique nature of the Park Hotel and adopts the character of the surrounding open space, thereby conceiving a considerable volume in a way that is compatible with the landscape. The campus grounds mainly consist of  two-storey, offset, staggered building wings that are horizontally integrated into the topography. A clear hierarchy is achieved between the dominant, historical hotel building, which develops upwards, and the new building embedded into the topography. The rural aspect of the new building is consolidated by the park-like planted greenery on the terraces and along the footpaths. The historical Park Hotel at this rural location is therefore framed by a park-like development. The facility’s architecture engages in a dialogue with the existing hotel. While the historical hotel has a massive, palatial appearance, the new building is light and horizontally layered.
