The location was already occupied by a belle-époque hotel in the 19th century. Following its demolition, a new Alpine inn was constructed on the same foundations in 1952. The task was to redesign the main entrance, add an attractive terrace, enlarge the restaurant space, integrate a new hotel kitchen and adapt the technical equipment. The facility’s relationship to the topography was clarified, the extension giving the main building its precise location. The ramp and base now highlight the slope, while the terrace in front emphasises the horizontal plane. The extension, which is made of concrete and a prefabricated steel structure, clad in aluminium trapezoid sheeting, combines the elements to form a unity. The main building is perceived as the main volume of the new overall composition. The additional terrace to the south sets itself apart from the terrain and becomes an outdoor viewing platform. The extension and the terrace use the language of functional Alpine architecture through their materialisation and simple details.
